In 1993, my first chessies made their way into my home and heart Chesabar's Dashin Sailor Boy, CD, TDI, CGC and Chesabar's Stormy Savannah, CGC.
Dasher and Stormy excelled in anything I challenged them to do - as long as I was having fun, so were they. Dasher proved himself over and over to me. He was truly a one in a million dog. His mission in life was to please. He became my obedience, high in trial dog, and a wonderful therapy dog for the old and troubled young, certified with TDI. We lost Dasher just a few months shy of his 14th Birthday and Stormy lived a long happy life just shy of 16yrs old! They will be missed, but I am thankful every day for the time we spent journeying together. They were where my love of Chessies began a 30year journey!
In 1997, my third chessie stepped into my heart, CH* Chesabar's Piccadilly, RN, CGC. Dilly was a lovely bitch, that finished her breed championship at 15 months of age with 3 majors from the puppy classes. She was a multiple Best in Breed winner (AKC/CKC) and with group placements - all with limited showing. In 2007 at age 10, she came out of retirement to earn a Rally Novice Obedience title and to show she can still strut her stuff by earning a Best of Opposite Sex to Best in Breed at a large Chesapeake Bay Retriever supported entry winning over many lovely, younger females.
CH* Riverdel's Red Sky at Night, RN, NW2, CGC and Riverdel's Leather & Lace, RN, CGC joined our family in March 2003. They were Dilly's kids with great promise. They loved to swim and retrieve and always naturaly returned to hand. They were great puppies, quick to learn and eager to please. Sky went on to be my constant companion siring a litter, and Lacey was co-owned by a good friend. They both lived long, happy lifes.
In 2009, our 2nd generation arrived, "Slider", UKC BIS AL-CH* Riverdel's Against The Seams, RN, NW1, CGC. Named b/c she was a cross between a fast ball and a curve ball. She was Sky's daugther and Piccadilly's granddaugther.
2013 brought us a new puppy "Derby", who is turning 10yrs old soon. CH Sandbar's Demolition Derby, CGC, RN, SWA, SHDN, NW1. Derby finished his show championship before he was 2yrs old with all majors. A big loveable boy, we had lots of fun earning his Barn Hunt, Rally, Nosework and Scentwork titles. He is semi-retired, and enjoy leisurely days in the sun, swimming weekly, and playing ball.
In the fall of 2019, we added the latest rising star, "GIA". GCHB CH* Next Generations Paragon at Riverdel, CD, BN, RA, SWD, SWME, SHDE, CGCA, CGCU, ATT, TKN, FITG, NACSW ELT-CH, ELT-S, L2I, L2C, L1V. GIA is a fun dog and game for anything. She finished her show championship very quickly and is a super sniffer with advanced titles in AKC Scentwork and NACSW Nosework. She was the number 4 owner-handled chessie in 2022, number 13 in breed, and won an Award of Merit at the 2002 ACC NSS and has many group placements including several owner-handled group ones.
Then came "Just Joe" in the summer of 2024, Next Generation's Brewed 2 Perfection @ Riverdel, STR, ORT. Just Joe shows promise to be the next star at Riverdel...he was pointed in conformation and passed his NACSW ORT (Odor Recognition Test) both at 6 months old before heading to start his hunt test trainining and has 2 Junior Hunter passes at 10 months old!
The past 30+ years with my chessies have led me to a new circle of friends and down many wonderful paths- obedience training, conformation, scent work, therapy dog work, flyball, agility, rally, hunt test training, barn hunt, and rescue. Yes that's right folks, unfortunately, there are many fine chessies in need of loving homes (please see "Links" for more information on rescue dogs).
The Future
The future holds more fun times with the "brown dawgs" and our friends. Look for us in conformation competition, obedience/rally/scent work trials and hunt tests. Puppies are available occassionally. All breeding stock have their hip and eye clearances, conform to the breed standard and have demonstrated excellent health, temperament and working ability. Puppies will come with written health quarantees.
